My name is Tracy Dennis, and I’m a professor in the Psychology Department and the Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience Doctoral Program at Hunter College, The City University of New York.

As a scientist and mom of two, I’m very interested in the impact of social media and technology on our emotions and social skills, and on the brain processes that underlie them.  This blog reflects my thoughts on this topic, both scientific and personal.

In my lab, we’re using the tools of psychology and neuroscience to study how  social media influence teens’ social and emotional skills, how retraining patterns of attention may help alleviate symptoms of anxiety (including a “stress vaccine” app that’s in development – yes, there’s an app for that!), and how teens can be taught mindfulness and relaxation techniques to improve health and coping.

For more information about my research visit my lab website and Facebook page.
